Job Title                         : Network Administrator

Location                         : Pretoria: Head Office 
Reporting Line               : Manager: ICT
Overall Job Purpose     :  Responsible for maintaning day to day operation of the the network including LAN and other data communication systems.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Operational Support

  • Install, configure, and support networking hardware and software (e.g., routers, Access Points, switches, firewalls, VPNs).
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of network configurations and infrastructure.
  • In the Head office and regional offices to ensure optimal utilisation and up-time, as guided by the practices and procedures established and as directed by the Head Office.
  • Ensure compliance with network policies, procedures necessary to ensure the safety, security and integrity of Councils programs, data and equipment infrastructure.
  • Maintain network security by implementing firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption and performing regular network maintenance and upgrades, including patches and service packs in order to ensure safety, Security and integrity of the Councils programs, data and equipment infrastructure, in conformance with Council standards and practices as directed by Head Office.
  • Network support activities to ensure continued operations, including access and connectivity management as necessary for electronic mail services, internet connectivity.
  • Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Manage and monitor user access and permissions on the network and back up network configurations and critical systems regularly.

 

Operational Support and Promotion of ICT Competencies

  • Troubleshoot network issues, outages, and provide technical support to users in the Head office and regional offices through the provision of problem-solving expertise for the resolution of computing concerns as necessary.
  • Collaborate with IT team members and other departments on IT projects.

 

Administrative support

  • Undertakes IMAC activities for end-user computing in line with Head Office directives encompassing:
  • Equipment infrastructure, peripherals and components
  • Operating system and functional connectivity including messaging
  • Application software of both individual, groupware and suite definition.
  • Prepares reports concerning technical reviews, assessment and recommendations regarding the computing infrastructure of Council for consideration by Head Office.

 

KEY PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

 

  • Excellent Communication skills (Oral and Written)
  • The ability to interact suitably and appropriately in a crisis-hierarchal and cross functional manner both formally and informally.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

 

 

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Grade 12; and
  • Diploma or degree with majors in informatics or Computer Science or other related discipline or

Certified network administrator/Engineer, A+ and N+ certification and extensive technical support experience.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of three (03) years practical ICT experience in a support/ systems administration role.
  • The incumbent must not only have experiential or formal academic knowledge of the technological aspects of the ICT function but also general business knowledge and administrative experience.
