Overall Job Purpose |
: The incumbent will be responsible for providing effective and efficient motor vehicle driving services to the Council for Geoscience (CGS) and its business units. The role includes transporting scientific and support staff to facilitate the execution of geoscience technical programmes, as well as performing related administrative duties in accordance with established policies and procedures. |
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations Management
- Render effective and efficient motor vehicle driver services.
- Transport scientific staff to undertake field duties in execution of the geoscience technical programme.
- Assist scientific staff in collection and curation of geoscience data.
- Drive light and medium motor vehicles to transport CGS staff, stakeholders and to deliver other goods and other.
- Ensure timeous delivery and collection of staff to and from designated areas.
- Ensure timeous execution of the daily transportation schedule as agreed.
- Manage changes and unforeseen obstacles that impact daily transportation schedules and consult with the Manager or Supervisor when necessary.
- Ensure that any subsequent changes are communicated to stakeholders timeously.
- Adhere to all traffic rules and regulations as well as safety requirements.
- Complete all the required and prescribed records and logbooks with regards to the motor vehicle and items or goods handled in a timely manner.
- Ensure that the motor vehicles used to provide services are kept in a roadworthy condition, maintained and serviced.
- Perform pre and post trip inspections on motor vehicles for any damage.
- Assist with the delivery and collection of motor vehicles to and from various maintenance agents and third parties.
- Liaise with the relevant end user when transportation of passengers and other items or goods are needed.
- Collect, deliver and distribute company mail, documents and parcels timeously to the correct recipients.
- Maintain documentation and up-to-date records of mail delivery, collection and distribution.
- Safeguard allocated motor vehicles, mail, documents and parcels against theft, misuse and loss.
- Assist with the recovery of broken-down vehicles when requested.
- Assist with CGS operational needs outside normal working hours when requested.
- Perform any other ad hoc duties.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
- Grade 10; and
- Valid driver's license (Code 10/C1 with PDP).
- The candidates with one of the following licence or certificates will have an added advantage:
- EC licence or code 14 with PDP (Professional Driving Permit).
- TLB operating certificate.
- Fork Lift Certificate.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 06 months related experience as a Driver.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret maps/directions.
- Ability to operate a GPS.
- Understanding of the responsibilities/liabilities of driving/transporting passengers.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.
